Client Success Stories: Meet Jessie

Our clients are at the heart of what we do. This series celebrates their achievements and highlights the impact of our work. Around 80% of our clients go on to gain meaningful employment, which transforms their lives. It’s something that we’re really proud of at Dress for Success Greater London, and it’s something we want to shout about!

Jessie’s story is one that has stayed with us since she won Client of The Year at the 2017 Power of Women Awards. She remains a testament to the power of the work we do, and her story is one of absolute strength and resilience. As Jessie herself says, she is a tenacious woman who, with our help, completely transformed her life. She has kindly given us permission to share her story.

Jessie’s Story

Before being referred to Dress for Success Greater London, Jessie had experienced numerous challenges, including substance misuse issues, homelessness and domestic abuse. As a result of the traumatic life events she had experienced, Jessie hadn’t been able to work for a number of years.

She was referred to us by Single Homeless Project and, after receiving interview clothing and coaching from our volunteers, secured her first job in years. Jessie has since worked at the organisation that referred her, using her lived experience to help others who are in a similar position to the one she once found herself in.

Says Jessie,

I can’t really find the words to express my gratitude, which goes through the roof every time I think of Dress for Success [Greater London] because they’ve not only dressed me beautifully on the outside, but they’ve made me feel wonderful on the inside.

Jessie’s recovery journey and route back into work never fails to inspire us. In the decade since we began, we've supported thousands of women like Jessie. Every client that comes through our doors has their own powerful stories of strength and transformation, driving us to continue doing the work we do.
