Client Success Stories: Meet Jane

Each woman we serve has a unique and inspiring story to share. The majority have overcome significant challenges, coming to our boutique at a crucial stage in their journey.

Today, we celebrate Jane, who visited our boutique in June 2026. Jane’s story is one of strength and resilience. It is a story about starting over, embracing new opportunities, and moving forward with clarity, confidence, and purpose.

Jane had been living in the US for 25 years, having worked in finance for three decades. In search of something different, she applied for a scholarship at the prestigious New York Tisch School of Arts and secured the placement, graduating in Business Entertainment Management.

Jane then spent 8 months in Los Angeles, working on a documentary that is now being submitted to the 2027 Sundance Film Festival (!). After that, she spent two months in Puerto Rico, working at a recording studio with a close friend.

With an impressive career under her belt and an exciting future ahead of her, Jane felt content. But, after becoming a victim of fraud, her life changed dramatically. Jane told us she ‘lost everything’, and returned to London to be with her parents, both of whom are in their 90s. Having had health issues herself a few years prior, she wanted to look after them and tells us, ‘I realised…that tomorrow is not promised.’

Arriving back in the UK on 3 April at Gatwick, she was picked up by her brother. After spending such a long time in America, she brought just two suitcases home with her. Jane had no work, and applied for unemployment support, which she now describes as ‘a blessing!’ She explains:

An amazing job centre employee put me in touch with Dress for Success. Sure enough, within 4 weeks of being in the UK, I got an amazing opportunity at a hedge fund. I found an apartment close to my parents, and realised how truly blessed I am.

After securing employment, Jane was referred to us for a second dressing. We provided her with a capsule wardrobe of work-appropriate clothing to help her settle into her new role. Jane says:

Dress for Success gave me a beautiful capsule wardrobe. The staff were so kind – I’m getting emotional just reflecting on my experience with them on that hot, sunny, Friday afternoon. I lost everything a year ago but now, thanks to Dress for Success, I have my confidence back. I finally feel whole again. You never know what’s in front of you. I’ve been lucky to recover from a very humbling experience. It could happen to any of us. Thank you, Dress for Success!
