About the Role
The Director of Operations (DOP) is responsible for the overall leadership and management of Dress for Success Greater London. Director of Operations (“DOP”) provides direct coordination and oversight of the daily operations and functions of the Dress for Success Greater London (“DFSGL”) affiliate. The primary responsibility of the DOP is to plan and supervise the operations of Dress for Success Greater London to ensure client needs are met in an effective and efficient manner.
Dress for Success Greater London’s DOP is responsible for developing and managing the organisation’s budget, supervising staff and volunteers. This position reports to the Chair of Trustees and works closely with the Board of Trustees.
Requirements
Leadership and Communication
Works in concert with the staff, the Board of Trustees, volunteers and sponsors to accomplish the strategic plan of the organisation
Promotes awareness and visibility of Dress for Success Greater London through a variety of forums, including public speaking, media (radio, television, newspapers, magazines and others) and other means of communication as needed
Cultivates and maintain successful relationships with Dress for Success Worldwide, referral agencies, other Dress for Success affiliates, partner programmes, referral agencies, local government, educational organisations and other community organisations and relevant partners of Dress for Success Greater London
Builds and supports collaborations as appropriate among organisations to fulfill the mission, vision and goals of Dress for Success Greater London
Ensures that staff, board and volunteers interacting with the public do so in an informed and effective manner
Operations and Finance
Supervise and review staff including monitoring and evaluating performance
Ensure the implementation of policies and procedures established by the Board of Trsutees
Propose an annual budget for board review and approval
Monitor the fiscal performance of the organisation and keep the board appraised on a monthly basis
Approve expenditures within board-approved budget and guidelines
Oversee information systems development and maintenance, including databases
Personnel Management
Supports and provides guidance to the organisational team structure and the development of leadership among paid staff and volunteers.
Supervises and evaluates paid staff
Direct reports: Program Coordinator and Office and Volunteer Administrator
Provides leadership, guidance and support for Dress for Success Greater London staff and core volunteers
Works with the Board of Trustees in developing, implementing and monitoring personnel policies and employee benefit plans to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
Board Communication
Reports directly solid line to the Chair of Trustees with a dotted lined to the Board of Trustees on all aspects of the organisation
Works with the Board to develop strategic plans, policies and procedures and priorities regarding personnel, finances, programmatic direction and external relations
Provides quarterly update to Board and attends quarterly Board meetings for 1 hour
Programme Planning/ Resource Development and Community Relations
Oversees all programmes, services and activities to ensure programme objectives are met
Establish a multi- year fundraising plan and generate operating funds
Organise and implement an ongoing public relations plan to include written materials, media relations and public speaking
Manages and oversees the Programme Manager, core volunteers, and other staff to strengthen each programme and communicate effectively
Qualifications
Minimum of 5+ years experience working within non profit sector including supervising staff and working with a Board of Trustees
Bachelor’s degree/ Master’s degree, highly desirable
Knowledge of community based organisations and public service sector
Working knowledge of nonprofit operational and financial management
High level of maturity as well as high level of energy and passion for serving women
Experience in fundraising and grant writing to generate operating funds, highly desireable
Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication and interpersonal relations
About the Company
Dress for Success Greater London is a registered charity that provides career services including, a suiting programme, one to one interview preparation, an employment retention programme and a career centre to unemployed and low income women. The women are job ready with an imminent job interview or have recently returned to the job market.
Dress for Success Greater London ("DFSGL") is volunteer-driven and supported by a small staff and a volunteer board. Our two-key client programmes include the dressing/suiting programme which equips each woman with professional attire for her job interview and the career centre which provides interview tips and job search support.
